Have you heard of the Lemonade Diet? This has a nice ring to it. Actually it’s a plan to rid your body of toxins and in particular to cleanse your colon. It is often referred to as the “Master Cleanse”.
Stanley Burroughs invented this in 1941 in Hawaii. He was a naturopathic doctor. Naturally many people have tried this diet or cleanse since then. There are many good reviews about it and also quite a few bad ones.
This diet is really simple and easy to do. These are the ingredients: 10oz water, 2 tablespoons lemon juice, 2 tablespoons maple syrup and just a pinch of cayenne pepper. This recipe is only for one glass - your need six to ten glasses each day you are on the diet (ten days is best). That is all you have. You can enjoy lots of good quality fresh water and also herbal tea, but no actual food. Apparently this drink has all the nutrients you need.
If you can’t manage to do this for ten days, then do it for as long as you can. Just think that every day you are on the diet, your insides get cleaner. Doing it for three or four days is also a good thing. Even if you only do it for one day a week, then that means a cleaner you.
Because this is quite extreme, it would be a good thing on your part to visit your doctor beforehand and seek his advice. Don’t use this diet if you have a problem with intestines or have high blood pressure, gallstones, diabetes or cancer,. This is not for you if you are underweight or have any form of an eating disorder. Of course if you are pregnant or are nursing, keep away from it. I think it goes without saying that kids should stay clear of this diet.
This diet does satisfy you so I didn’t experience hunger pangs but I did miss solid food. It can get boring and you can get sick of the taste of the lemonade.
Go and see you doctor for a consultation if you want to do this diet. When you’re on the diet, headaches and nausea can be experienced but these are often just a symptom of the detox process. You will feel ‘lighter’ and fresher after the Lemonade Diet.
