Although you have the choice of many colon cleansing herbs, such as licorice root, slippery elm bark, marshmallow and rhubarb root, ayruvedic medicine comes from India where it has been practiced for centuries and their herb of choice is triphala.

Let’s start at the beginning with Ayurveda. Ayur means life and Veda means science so Ayurveda means basically the science of life. Originally, thousands of years ago, all aspects of ayurvedic medicine was written down in Sanskrit and that not only included detailed information about hundreds of herbs, their description and use but also how to perform various surgeries! Dr. Deepak Chopra has done much in North America to promote Ayurvedic medicine.

According to Ayurveda, there are three main body types, vata, pitta and kapha and we are one or a combination of usually two of these. This is why India’s healing system is very individualized – a cough, for example, in a vata type will be handled differently than a cough in a pitta type.

Triphala is the choice in Ayurveda for colon cleansing herbs because it strengthens and tones the muscle action (peristaltic) of the colon, as well as encouraging the proper function of the whole digestive system , it supports the circulatory, respiratory and genitourinary systems.

This herb consists of three fruits – amalaki, bibhitaki and haritaki which are dried. Although this Ayurvedic herb combination is used for maintaining a healthy digestive system, it is also often used for constipation, flatulence, bloating, stomach pain and indigestion. Triphala removes excess toxins from the colon by enlivening and supporting the digestive process.

It can also be used as part of a weight control program as it encourages proper digestion and elimination. Triphala also helps control food cravings and overeating and by promoting absorption and assimilation of nutrients. If your body absorbs and integrates nutrients in food properly, you will not need or crave for excess food.

Ayurvedic medicine has been used in India for centuries and now if finding foot all over the world because it works! Tripaha is a combination of three colon cleansing herbs that help your body digest and eliminate food and this keep your body clean on the inside.
