Ayurveda is an ancient natural healing system that has been used for many centuries in India. Thankfully Ayurveda (or Ayurvedic medicine as it is also known) is now popular all over the world. It is a unique but very down to earth healing art.
When we look at colon health, Ayurveda considers the eating and digestion first. Elimination, of course, is also addressed, but let’s face it, we eat, digest and then eliminate. Therefore diet is a number one consideration, and then colon cleansing herbs.
Many colon cleansers do just that – empty the colon. However, relieving gas and bloating should also be addressed, not just elimination. The Ayurveda ‘herb’ of choice, Triphala, actually consists of three: Haritaki, bibhitaki and amalaki. It is interesting to note that Ayurveda has six flavors.
· Amalaki (also known as an Indian gooseberry) is sour, sweet, pungent, bitter, astringent and cooling. It is high in antioxidants and and 20 times the vitamin C content of an orange.
· Haritaki has five of the six ayurvedic flavors and is particularly bitter.
· Bibhitaki is sweet, pungent, bitter and astringent and warm. The Bibhitaki fruit as 35% oil and 40% protein.
These three fruits are combined as “Triphala” and this Ayurvedic internal cleanser and has the following benefits:
· Remove toxins, gas, bloating and distention of the stomach
· Detoxify all body systems
· Regulate and vitalize metabolism
· Nourish the nervous system, blood and muscle
· Increase digestion, assimilation and reduce fat
As you can see, Triphala is believed to not only address the colon but other tubes and ducts of the body, cleaning arteries and veins too.
The ancient Ayurvedic healing system is still used in India today and indeed has grown in popularity around the world. This is mainly because it works! Therefore it is something to consider when you consider colon cleansing herbs.
